Thankful Thursday: Companies that Inspire

This November, we’re showing our gratitude for the words, industries and people that inspire us and are making a real difference. To give thanks the best way we know how, we’re sharing a different staff round-up each #thankfulthursday .

While Red Fan loves working with B2B tech, our experience runs the gamut. Name an industry, we probably have a story to tell. All companies have the potential to be big, do better and create “good.” Here are seven companies that are making waves in the best way, inspiring us and empowering our work:

Gro-Intelligence: Gro-Intelligence pulls global agricultural data from thousands of data sets, and then uses AI to forecast supply, demand and pricing. This software will help treat key global issues like climate change and food insecurity. Inc says, “Wondering how much pork will cost in China next year? Gro crunches tens of thousands of data points—weather, international trade volume, projected soybean and corn yields (i.e. pig food)—to produce an answer that makes sense to both pig farmers and hedge fund managers.”

Astroscale: Tackling an alarming issue that you may not have even heard of, Astroscale is a private orbital debris removal company. They call themselves “Space Sweepers” that are “securing space sustainability” for future generations. There’s already millions of pieces of small debris in space, and over 23,000 pieces of larger debris, endangering the sustainable development of space.

HackerOne: Through the motto of “making the internet a safer place,” HackerOne unites the global hacker community to “surface the most relevant security issues of our customers before they can be exploited by criminals.” In 2019 they launched HackerOne Clear, a program vetting hackers for top-security work. Clients include Nintendo, Starbucks, AT&T, Toyota and the Department of Defense.

Footprint: We really hate plastic, if you didn’t already know, and Footprint’s going big on this. They specialize in materials science engineering and provide leading sustainable, plant-based packaging solutions for global brands.

Tala: With nearly half of the global population unable to participate in the formal financial sector, Tala offers the world’s most accessible consumer credit product. Tala has built its own modern day financial credit system that works for everyone. Operating in Kenya, India, Mexico and the Philippines, Tala is built on trust and believing that “every person deserves the opportunity to take charge of their financial life.”

Merck: Merck & Co. not only created the first FDA-approved ebola vaccine in 2019, but its CEO, Ken Frazier, is a breath of fresh air in the pharmaceutical industry. He’s called on corporate America to take a stand, and was the first executive to resign from President Donald Trump’s manufacturing council in 2017. Fierce Pharma says “Frazier––one of few Black executives in biopharma—has emerged as a leading voice, and moral authority, in the industry’s response to systemic racism and the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Indigo: Indigo is an ag-tech startup, tackling carbon issues straight at the source––with growers. An important step toward more sustainable agriculture, Indigo recently launched its carbon credit program with companies like Barclays, IBM and JPMorgan Chase committing. Farming in ways that store carbon in the soil will improve land quality, help our ozone, create revenue for growers and hold large companies responsible.
