Energy & Utilities
Investor-owned electric companies plan to invest $1.4 trillion in the grid between 2026 and 2030, according to the Edison Electric Institute, up from a prior five-year projection of $1.1 trillion. Capital expenditures are set to climb 17% in 2026 alone, to $238.8 billion. Data centers account for much of the new load, but the spending reaches well past generation into transmission, distribution, storage and hardening against extreme weather. Every dollar of it flows through companies that make transformers, switchgear, lighting systems, charging equipment and the software that ties them together.
Water carries a parallel need. EPA's most recent assessments put drinking water infrastructure at $625 billion over 20 years and wastewater and stormwater at another $630 billion, a combined figure that exceeds what federal programs have committed by an order of magnitude. Municipalities, utilities and private operators are choosing vendors and partners now for work that will run a decade or longer.
Companies competing for that spending face a specific communications problem. Their buyers are utility procurement teams, public works directors, city councils, facility executives and the regulators who approve cost recovery, and every one of those audiences reads claims skeptically and requires proof before a contract advances. Technical credibility, deployment evidence and a track record that survives due diligence matter more than category language. The companies that win are the ones whose story holds up in a rate case, a board memo and a trade publication at the same time.
Red Fan works with companies across sectors—including recent work in water management, LED lighting, electrical infrastructure and electric vehicle systems—to build positioning that earns that kind of scrutiny. We translate technical capability into language that specifiers, buyers and investors act on, and we substantiate every claim before it goes public.
